Benefits of using Flexible PCBs
The answer that comes to mind is that the Flexible PCBs can be bent, flexed, and positioned into various spaces, but it is much more than that. The manufacturing of flexible circuit boards enables our customers to create something that is any shape or size and can fit into the smallest electronics without compromising on quality.
This also works out to be a more cost-effective solution for most by removing the use of connectors, bulky wires, and solder connections. Depending on components and structure, this can save up to 60% in weight and space, significantly reducing package size. Flex materials also provide a lower profile than traditional rigid boards.
With the reduced wiring and connectors etc. this in turn cuts down the packaging and delivery costs and reduces the assembly time to save on cost and time overall.
Flexible circuits, when designed by professional engineers can withstand millions of flexes. A good example of this are the hinges on our laptops. These flexible PCBs will withstand tens of thousands of flexes over the life of our computers.
The material used (Polyimide) is also used because it can withstand high heat applications, and thin polyimide dissipates heat much better than thicker, less thermally conductive materials. For this reason, we see significant growth in flexible circuits designs in higher power, higher frequency designs.
Bio-compatibility: Polyimide materials are an excellent choice for bio-compatibility and they are regularly used for that reason in both medical and wearable applications. Advanced technology can also replace copper conductors with gold conductors giving a fully bio-compatible option.
